Prompt


With the prompt command you can change the DOS prompt. You can replace the drive letter with the > by a text.

C:\>prompt IGODU
IGODU


Because the > character has a function in DOS, you cannot display it by typing this:

C:\>prompt IGODU>
Bad command or file name


You can solve this by typing $G.

C:\>prompt IGODU$G
IGODU>

Standard prompt
When you type prompt without a parameter, you'll see the standard prompt of DOS. In this prompt you cannot see the path:

If you want to display the standard prompt including the path, type prompt $P$G:

C>prompt $P$G
